North Star Community Recreation Center

The Fairbanks North Star Borough consists of a diverse and active population involved in numerous indoor and outdoor sports and recreation activities throughout the year. The Borough is seeking to meet the needs of those in our community by constructing a year round, multi-use community recreation center that will expand off, and provide upgrades to, the Big Dipper Ice Arena. This facility is to be constructed in a multi-year phased development with priorities catered to community needs, community use and ease of phased construction.

South Cushman Range

South Cushman Gun Range Maintenance Project

The Fairbanks North Star Borough has been awarded an Alaska Department of Fish & Game Hunter Access grant through the Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration Program (Pittman-Robertson Act) to revitalize and improve the South Cushman Shooting Range. The range will be closed for construction from approximately mid-May to Mid-August during the 2022 Summer season as improvements are made to expand capacity at the facility and improve safety and access for all shooters.
 The project start date will be announced with advanced public notice.
 

Project Improvements Include:

 o Constructing safety berms to establish separate shooting areas to allow education        courses concurrent with public use
 o Improving ADA accessibility to the shooting range
 o Replacing the current firing line roof structure
 o Minor pistol range improvements
 o Addition of a vault toilet
 o Restoring the shooting benches and tables

FNSB Comprehensive Trails Plan

The Fairbanks North Star Borough is developing a new Recreational Trails Plan that will be the primary decision-making tool guiding FNSB and its partners to prioritize the allocation of available resources to local trails.
